LITURGICAL MINISTRIES

ALTAR CARE [Joan Chopp]
The altar is prepared for the celebration of the Mass. Responsible for the upkeep of the vestments for the priest.

ALTAR SERVERS  [Lionel Alex ]
 Assists the celebrant at Saturday and Sunday Masses, and other special liturgical services held throughout the Church year. Young boys and girls must have received First Communion and be at least seven (7) years old.

       Members of the parish are appointed to this ministry and attend a training process. They help in distribution of communion during Mass.

       Our Liturgy of Music includes the Life Teen choir-12:30 Mass, two (2) Spanish choirs-7pm & 10:30 am Masses, Gospel choir-8:30 am Mass, Traditional choir-5 pm Mass. These groups exercise their musical talents and enrich the liturgical celebrations at the different Masses.

PERPETUAL ADORATION  [Wallina Bush]
       In Mary's Chapel (inside the main building), the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar is exposed for perpetual adoration and meditation. The Chapel is available for prayers twenty-four hours everyday. Parishioners are invited to commit one hour each week to meet with the Lord, talk to Him and recover their inner peace and happiness. A schedule is available for choosing a specific hour of adoration.

PROCLAIMER OF THE WORD (LECTOR) [Joan Chopp]
      Proclaim the Word of God by reading the scripture passages to the congregation at all Saturday and Sunday Masses, and other celebration throughout the Church year. Must have a strong personal faith and be able to reveal that faith through a simple, natural delivery.

       The Baptismal team helps the parents to prepare for their child's baptism. A three-week preparation is given within the parish. The team also helps in setting up the community celebration on a designated Sunday of every other month.

MARRIAGE PREPARATION

       Marriage preparation in the parish is meant to enhance the commitment of the couple to one another and to God. The aim is to arrive at an understanding of marriage not simply as a human contract, but as Christian vocation; as our response to the Call of God in our lives. The psychological preparedness, and the compatibility of the couples are especially stressed as well as their response to God.

QUINCEAÑERAS [Maria Labastida]
​       The tradition of the Quince Años is a popular Hispanic celebration honoring God our Father, and expressing love for Mary our Mother. This tradition traces it origins to ancient rites of passage. It is recognition of the faith journey that a fifteen year old person makes toward a more mature participation in the Christian community. Celebrating the Quince Años in our parish offers the family the opportunity to share their faith and culture in a liturgical context and it offers us an occasion to affirm the richness and diversity of culture found in the church.

       Religious education teachers are committed to the formation and instruction of the children in our parish in the Catholic faith.

RICA: INITIATION FOR ADULTS

       Adults who want to join the Catholic faith; Catholics who have not received the other sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Confirmation, or Eucharist; all other persons who are just interested in updating their knowledge of the faith are invited to join this group. Sessions begin in September and ends at Easter.

Ballet Folklorico dancers perform at a variety of church and community events, showcasing both their faith and the Hispanic culture to the community.

       The mission of this group is to try to make the gospel alive in our lives through scriptures, praises and orations. This mission does not belong to a single group, but to the whole church.

       An international Catholic youth ministry and catechesis program for high school teens that seeks to lead them closer to christ. Provides teachings about the church and teen issues. offers the ability to feel comfortable to learn about their faith in any setting while challenging them to grow in the Catholic faith.

Provide comfort to the sick parishioners and families of deceased members with offerings of cards, rosary beads and prayer. They also provide seminars on how to handle certain concerns of the parish.

     Serves the spiritual needs of parishioners whose primary language is Spanish and to motivate them to a greater participation in parish life.

SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB [Sadie Newman]
      Provide a friendly, welcoming atmosphere to senior citizens each Wednesday of the month. A variety of social activities (bus tours, shopping trips, luncheons, movie and theatre trips, etc.) and other services are offered. Membership to retirees only, are offered once a year.

      Serves the spiritual and faith formation needs of adults between 18-39 years old, whether single or married.

      Serves the parish in lay apostleship of prayer and evangelization. The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active cooperation in Mary's and the Church's work of Evangelization.

ORGANIZATIONS/COMMITTEES

CARNIVAL COMMITTEE

       This committee was formed when the church was built. The Carnival Committee plans and carries through the Fall Carnival. All parishioners are invited to participate in this venture through their time and talent. Proceeds from the Carnival are used to pay off arrears in payments of DSF deficits, Cathedraticum Taxes, and unforeseen parish expenditures not covered by the annual parish budget.

CATHOLIC DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAS [Frances Garza]
This is one of the oldest and largest organization of Catholic women. They donate to charities, administer scholarships, offering helping hands to those in pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness. Their moto “Unity and Charity.”  At St. Benedict Catholic Daughters assist our pastor, church and community.

      The Diocesan Services Fund, each parish participate to offer support for more than fifty-seven (57) programs, ministries and direct services to people in need. Our parish is benefited in many ways, from training and supporting diocesan priests & deacons, training parish councils, supporting the parish school system, and many other needs of the parish.

KNIGHTS OF PETER CLAVER

KNIGHTS OF PETER CLAVER LADIES AUXILIARY  [Earline Castex]

     This noble organization was established in 1909. Through hard work and dedicated efforts the Knights of Peter Claver & Ladies Auxiliary involves families in the church and community activities by promoting civic improvements, developing youth and providing social intellectual and charitable fellowship for its members. Like its patron, St. Peter Claver, they reach out to those in need.
KNIGHTS OF PETER CLAVER JUNIOR KNIGHTS  [Gary Patterson]
KNIGHTS OF PETER CLAVER JUNIOR DAUGHTERS  [Vanessa Kendall]

The Knights of Peter Claver Junior Division consists of Catholic youth ages 7-17. With the Knights of Peter Claver Senior Division as their mentors, this organization provides religious, educational and charitable experiences for youth. Through parish, community, state and national involvement these youth reach out to those in need exhibiting the morals of their patron saint, St. Peter Claver.

     This group counts and prepares the Sunday and holiday offerings for immediate deposit, and after all weekend Masses.

We serve our parish in many ways, with our God-given time, talents, and gifts. We enrich one another, and enhance the oneness that Jesus prayed for all his disciples.  Ministries depend on the support of parish volunteers. St. Benedict urges all parishioners to get involved in our parish with the many ministries, church activities and membership.
